Who will blink first in Governor Barasa, women rep bitter political rivalry?

Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa has unveiled his candidate for the position of the next women representative of Kakamega county.

Governor Barasa who has in recent days has been trading bards the current Woman MP Elsie Muhanda, said that he is fronting Hellen Kumbuti for the post in the next polls.

“With me here is a lady from Likuyani, her name is Hellen Kumbuti, let her take a minute and say hello to you” the governor introduced her to the people.

“We have a certain lady (Elsie Muhanda); she wants to be a governor. Now the women representative position is vacant.”Barasa told the charged crowd

Speaking at a public participation forum at Khwisero sub county said that ‘whoever is willing’ to join the race (women rep) for the post should feel free to do so.

The governor said that the ‘women rep’ post has fallen vacant following Ms Muhanda’s early declaration to vie against him for the gubernatorial seat.

“We have a certain lady (Elsie Muhanda); she wants to be a governor. Now the women representative position is vacant.”Barasa told the charged crowd.

Ms. Hellen Kumbuti who later took on stage urged the voters to consider electing her when time comes. She lauded the governor for his spirit of devotion towards serving the electorates.

“I am therefore requesting these two gentlemen (Governor Barasa and Aseka Miradi, MP for Khwisero) to hold my hand.” she said.

Governor Barasa’s declaration has come barely a day after him and women repdiffered openly at a church service in Shinyalu constituency on Sunday.

Muhanda accused Governor Barasa of mobilising rowdy youths to heckle at her while she was addressing the congregation.

“Barasa, tell your people to shut up! You cannot just tell people to heckle me.” she said.

Elsie while addressing the congregation at Shinyalu she was echoed by people suspected to be goons.

According to her, the people who were heckling and interrupting her speech were goons hired by the governor.

She further went ahead to says that ‘it’s unfair to pay people’ to heckle others at functions.

“We say riswa to those who carry boys to heckle people,”said the women rep.adding that peace is so important.
