Breaking News: Governor Barasa to sack striking doctors who won’t report to work by tomorrow 8am

Governor Barasa to sack striking doctors who won’t report to work by tomorrow 8am

By Isaac Mutiso, Kakamega

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has said that all striking doctors who fail to report to work tomorrow by 8am will be sacked.

Barasa said that he has directed a head count of all doctors who will report to work and those who will be missing, will be summarily dismissed.

“I direct that if you are a doctor employed by the county government of Kakamega to report to work tomorrow by 8am. Anyone who will ignore this directive will be sacked,” said Barasa

Barasa who addressed the media this evening at the county headquarters said that he will not hesitate to dismiss a doctor who will have absconded duty instead of attending to sick patients.

“We have many qualified doctors who can do that job better. We will sack you for absconding duty and employ those medics who have the welfare of patients at heart,” said Barasa

The Governor said that the ongoing strike has affected service at the theater, surgical and special clinics.

He said that even in the dispensaries, the number of patients going there has drastically reduced as the locals think even the nurses are on strike.

“Patients are not going to the dispensaries that are run by nurses. They think all healthcare workers are on strike. I am urging them to go get treated if they are seek as the services are on.” Barasa said

He asked the striking doctors to respect the court ruling that directed them to suspend the strike and give room to negotiations.

“The Employment and Labour Relations Court through Justice Byram Ongaya directed the doctors to resume their duties and allow negotiations to go on through their representatives. Let the respect the order from the court,” said the governor

In Kakamega, there are 111 doctors, 256 clinicians, 122 lab technologists and 568 nurses totaling 1,059 healthcare workers.
