Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo today received drugs worth Sh36million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).
This is a major boost in the health sector in times of Covid19 when the devolved units are struggling to curb the spread of the virus as well as remaining afloat with skewed budgetary allocations.
The drugs and non-pharmaceuticals will be distributed across all health facilities in Vihiga County to boost health care services.
Addressing the media at the County headquarters, Ottichilo took the opportunity to thank the national government through the ministry of health for the support it has accorded the counties through the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Program.
Ottichilo applauded the healthcare workers for the sacrifice and dedication they have put in place in curbing the spread Covid-19 and assured them that the county is processing their Sh28 million risk allowances that they will receive at the end of the month.
The Governor also thanked KEMSA for the timely and consistent supply of drugs pledging that his administration will always pay for the supplies in good time.

The Governor also called on Vihiga residents to take personal responsibility to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Dr. Amos Kutwa, the CECM in charge of health said the county in partnership with the ministry of health under the (UHC) program had recruited 167 healthcare workers to boost service delivery. He also said the county government was in the process of recruiting 440 Community Health Workers to promote primary healthcare.
Elsewhere, Ottichilo released a total of Sh25million for the second phase of Trade and Enterprise Fund. The money will be disbursed to groups and individuals in the business world.
Ottichilo who launched the exercise at Mulukhoro area in Emuhaya Sub County asked the beneficiaries to put the loan into prudent use to spur economy of the county.
“This is a revolving fund and my Government’s desire is that it serves generations in this County, I therefore urge you to put the money into good use for better returns”, said Ottichilo.
The County boss said the most important thing is capacity building for the business sector so that people can engage in viable and profitable business ventures.
The Governor also officially opened the Vihiga Trade and Enterprise Fund Board’s offices and commissioned a vehicle that the board members will use for field work.
Deputy Governor Dr Patrick Saisi urged beneficiaries of the fund to implore prudence in managing the money so as to transform their lives and boost County economy.
The Vihiga County Trade and Enterprise Fund was formed in 2019 and 33 million shillings was disbursed in the first year of inception.
Present at the event were Deputy Governor Dr Patrick Saisi, Trade CECM Elvuna Keseko,Chief officer Gilbert Vidija, Director administration Harrison Matevwa, Sub County and Ward administrators, Fund’s board members and beneficiaries of the Fund.
