Elections shocker: Historic low voter turnout as IEBC says only 57 per cent of Kenyans voted

The total number of votes cast was the less number of votes of what President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga cumulatively garnered in the 2017 general elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said that only 56.17 per cent Kenyans turned out to vote.

According to IEBC Commissioner Francis Wanderi, only 12.065million registered voters, out of 22.12million had cast their votes.

The total number of votes cast was the less number of votes of what President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga cumulatively garnered in the 2017 general elections.

The electoral agency said that they expect the final voter turn out to be around 60 per cent, which is one of the lowest in the country’s voting history since independence.

In 2017, the final turnout was 78 per cent while in 2013, the final voter turnout was 86 per cent.
