Barasa gifts cooperative societies Sh20 million

Kakamega county governor Fernandes Barasa through his office has allocated ksh 20 million to the 52 cooperative societies  in western region in  order to support their normal activities.
Barasa addressed this during the international cooperatives day particularly referred to as “ushirika day”.
The Governor on the other hand asked the  cooperative societies receiving that support to utilize the money prudently for the benefit of their members.
  “The county government has just ended the 2022/2023 financial year by allocating ksh 20 million to 52 cooperatives societies in various value change.” Said the Governor
Kakamega government through various ministries will work easily  with the cooperative societies since they are directly linked to areas of health and sanitation , hygiene ,  food security and wealth creation.
  ” I am encouraged to see that most of this cooperatives are directly linked to areas of health and  sanitation and hygiene food security and wealth creation the three areas are part of the six pillars in my development agenda and therefore it will be easier for you to collaborate with my government through various ministries ,” said Barasa
To promote awareness and sustainability the governor’s officers have facilitated capacity building seminars amongst members across the county.

According to Barasa , since bank loans have  become expensive the only way to borrow sustainably is through Saccos since central bank raised a key based leading rate to 10.5 per cent.
 “Bank loans have become very expensive since central bank raised a leading rate of 10.5 per cent and the only way to borrow sustainably is through saccos who can save this country of this high living rate . ” Barasa said
For cooperatives in emerging industries which show alot of prospects the Kakamega government has extended the financial support to enable them broaden their activities.
