The Kakamega annual Agricultural Show has returned following a two years hiatus due to the effects of Covid-19
This year’s event- last held in the year 2020 at the ASK grounds in Lurambi area, has attracted over 60 exhibitors from various sectors
Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa lauded the agricultural sector in the county for adapting to changing times.
During the official launch presided over by Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, Governor Fernandes Barasa reiterated the need to hold a sugar conference for the western Kenya region
“Soon we are going to have a sugar conference as western Kenya counties to deliberate on how to protect our farmers and ensure that the processing and trading policies benefit farmers and not brokers”.
On his part, Savula highlighted the need to embrace science and technology to improve food security.
Also he urged for new strategies to involve more youth in the sector
“The show focuses on the possibilities of pushing the frontiers of agricultural production by adopting technologies that produce varieties of climate resilient crops,” Savula said.
ASK western Branch chair Purity Anyanje noted the annual event has grown over the years.
“Both the large and small traders will highly benefit from the new networking and marketing strategies technologies”.
County Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives CECM Benjamin Andama said Agriculture is a key pillar to realise the County Government’s agenda on on food security and wealth creation
The Fair whose theme is: *promoting climate smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable growth* has attracted 60 exhibitors from multiple sectors
