Revealed: Why Kakamega Homeboyz sacked coach Baraza and his technical bench

By Dante Kayugira, Kakamega

Kakamega Homeboyz FC has fired head coach John Baraza citing a string of poor results at the Kenya Premier League (KPL).

Club patron, Cleophas Shimanyula alias ‘Toto’ made the announcement on his Facebook page, saying it was the Baraza’s fault for not asserting his authority on the playing unit.

“We have made changes to the technical bench and with immediate effect, the technical director Edward Manoah and goalkeeper trainer John Wau will be in charge of the team on a temporary basis. The rest will step aside. I assure fans that plenty of positive changes are on the way and we will start winning matches soon. I ask that they be patient for a while,” Shimanyula’s post reads.

Shimanyula promised to name a new coach next week. In the meantime, captain Moses Mudavadi will play the role of player-coach.

Baraza was appointed to be Kakamega Homeboyz coach on October 27 after the club parted ways with Bernard Mwalala who moved to Ulinzi Stars.

In an interview at Bukhungu stadium recently, Baraza said, “My job is like an office job, anytime anything can happen. “In this statement Coach Baraza seems to have foreseen his fate of being fired.

The team is currently having 21 with 4 loses, 6 draws, 5 wins.

Baraza was Sofapaka’s head coach in the 2020/21 season but he was fired in the midway due to a string of poor results. Baraza has also been in charge of FKF Division Two Side Equity FC before joining Mara Sugar and later joining Kakamega Homeboyz.

The 48-year-old coach won 52 caps for the national team and scored 21 goals at the international level. He was one of the players who played for Kenya in the 2004 African Cup of Nations and got eliminated at the group stage.
