The Ministry of Education has officially transitioned from the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) to the newly upgraded Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS).
The announcement was made during the Malava Constituency Teachers’ Engagement Forum held at Tande Secondary School, which brought together over 3,000 teachers from the region.
The event was graced by key government officials, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana, and Vihiga MP Beatrice Adagala.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok said the shift to KEMIS will enhance operational efficiency in learning institutions.
He also announced that all schools will now be required to adopt the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system to ensure transparency and efficiency in procurement processes.
Reinforcing the Ministry’s tough stance on discipline, Prof. Bitok declared, “Let it be clear, any teacher who engages in unprofessional conduct will face firm disciplinary action. The welfare and safety of learners is non-negotiable.”
In a significant boost to teacher welfare and career development, Prof. Bitok revealed that the Government has allocated KSh1 billion in the current financial year for teacher promotions.
“This allocation is a clear demonstration of the Government’s commitment to resolving long-standing challenges in teacher career progression and recognizing educators as vital agents of educational reform,” he said.
