Revealed: What killed Papa Shirandula

Television Star Papa Shirandula might have died of Covid19 according to a source close to the family.

Shirandula whose real name is Charles Bukeko is said to have travelled from their native home in Busia County recently where he might have contracted the virus.

According to a WhatsApp conversation in our possession, he died in the morning at a Karen hospital where he was receiving treatment.

“He had tested Covid19 positive after returning from the village. He then went for self-isolation and developed breathing complications this morning and was rushed to the hospital. He breathed his last as they arrived at the hospital,” part of the conversation reads in part.

Charles Bukeko was born on July 10, 1962 and died on July 18, 2020 at the age of 58 years .He was known for portraying the titular character in the television series Papa Shirandula, which he also created and won the 2010 Kalasha awards as the best actor in a TV Series.

He also appeared in the 2012 film  The Captain of Nakara. He has also appeared in numerous big-time commercials across the world including Coca Cola and GOTV.

Bukeko was the firstborn of four children to parents Valeria Makokha and Cosmas Wafula.He was born in Buhalarire, Mumias, Kenya.Bukeko attended Jogoo Road Primary School and Upper Hill Secondary.

Bukeko was married to Beatrice Ebbie Andega and they have three children: Tony, Charlie and Wendy
