A 35-year-old man from Navakholo, Kakamega County is being detained at Navakholo police station for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl.

Antony Marani, who hails from Musamba village reportedly, enticed the minor with edibles before he forcefully molested her and threatened to kill her if she exposed him.

Butsotso north area chief Wycliffe Kombo has confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

“He has been arrested and will be arraigned in court soon.” he said.

“We should be careful with the type of people interacting with our kids especially at this time they are at home,” he added.

According to Jacklyne Nasike (grandmother to the victim), she says she was surprised to see her granddaughter walking with difficulty while bleeding.

“She was examined by a doctor and was confirmed that she had been raped.” She said.

Area residents have condemned the act calling for chiefs and local administrative officers to be responsible by ensuring that the suspect is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

This comes just a few days after residents from Indangalasia, Lurambi Sub County protested over increased number of rape cases in the area.

The protesters recently stormed Emukaba administration camp and demanded the transfer of one officer after he was found cuddling a form one girl.

“He has raped more than four girls in this area,” said Evans Juma.

They said, despite their efforts reporting the matter to the police stations, nothing has been taken seriously.

“Their cases have been terminated in a vague manner.” Said Daniel Abutsa.

“We want the Ministry of security to intervene and relocate the officer from the area.” Said local MP Titus Khamala.
