Amagoro Comprehensive Schools have resolved to prioritize the construction of storeyed classrooms, a project expected to be fully funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), Teso North Constituency.
The decision follows a stalemate between learners and parents over which project should be given top priority. The matter came to light during a ceremony presided over by Teso North MP Oku Kaunya, where he officially handed over two newly built classrooms worth Ksh2.1 million, funded through NG-CDF.
When asked to identify their priority, learners at the school were unanimous in calling for the purchase of a school bus. Parents, however, insisted that storeyed classrooms were a more urgent need.
Faced with the disagreement, Dr. Oku tasked the school’s Board of Management (BOM) to deliberate and formally communicate the school’s top and second priority projects.
School Principal and BOM Secretary, Ronald Orodi, confirmed that the board had met and resolved in favor of storeyed classrooms. “The BOM was of the view that putting up storeyed classrooms will attract more learners to the school, which is a big plus for us. We have already communicated this decision to the MP,” Orodi said.
Dr. Oku emphasized that the implementation of either project would depend on the availability of funds, cautioning that only one may be viable in the short term.
BOM Chairperson, Hellen Etyang, said the board’s decision was unanimous, noting that a building is a permanent asset compared to a school bus. “The classrooms are a long-term investment. The school bus can come later,” she said.
