Kisumu County leaders have unveiled a raft of measures aimed at restoring security and tackling rising crime across the county following a high-level security meeting co-chaired by Kisumu County Commissioner Mohamed Mobuto and Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o. The meeting brought together members of the County Security Committee and county government officials to address growing security concerns.
The leaders resolved to implement immediate and decisive measures to enhance public safety, strengthen surveillance, and eliminate criminal elements operating across the county.
Reading the resolutions, County Commissioner Mohamed Mobuto said the joint security meeting had adopted a five-point framework to address pressing security challenges.
“Following deliberations with the Governor and members of the County Security Committee, we have resolved to implement immediate and decisive measures to enhance safety, upscale surveillance, and eliminate criminal elements across the county. The council has adopted a five-point resolution framework to address pressing security concerns,” said Mobuto.
The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between the national and county governments to protect lives and property while restoring public confidence in security agencies.
Governor Nyong’o signed a joint security resolution committing both levels of government to implementing the agreed action plan.
Among the key resolutions is the regulation of security at political functions and the eradication of goonism, a move aimed at ending politically instigated violence and dismantling criminal gangs.
“The County Security Committee does not condone unregulated security arrangements and commits to providing adequate security upon request for public functions and activities across the county,” Mobuto said.
The leaders also resolved to streamline and sanitize the matatu transport sector, tighten the registration and regulation of businesses operating within the county, and strengthen community policing through the Nyumba Kumi initiative to improve collaboration between residents and security agencies.
To deter criminal activities, the county government warned that businesses linked to crime would face immediate sanctions.
“The county government will withdraw licences and permits of enterprises involved in criminal activities with immediate effect,” the resolution states.
As part of efforts to improve crime prevention, the county will expand its CCTV surveillance network and accelerate the installation and maintenance of security lights in crime-prone areas.
