Ford Kenya Party leadership has threatened to expel Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga from the party, citing disloyalty as the main reason.
Speaking on Wednesday after accompanying the Ford Kenya candidate for clearance at the IEBC offices ahead of the Chwele/Kabuchai Ward by-election scheduled for November 27, Ford Kenya Secretary-General and Tongaren MP John Chikati issued a stern warning to Kalasinga for allegedly defying party directives.
Chikati accused the Kabuchai legislator of breaching party rules after he publicly declared support for Erick Wekesa, an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election.
“I am issuing a stern warning to Majimbo Kalasinga, who has chosen to go against the party constitution by supporting another candidate,” said Chikati. “The party has its own candidate in the forthcoming election, and as per our regulations, all members are expected to rally behind the official nominee. Anyone who acts contrary to this will face disciplinary action in accordance with the party constitution.”
John Chikati has reaffirmed the party’s confidence in its candidate, Vincent Maunda, expressing optimism that they will secure victory in the upcoming Chwele/Kabuchai Ward by-election.
“We have full confidence in our candidate and are determined to bring victory back home,” Chikati said. “I call upon Chwele/Kabuchai voters to turn out in large numbers and vote for Vincent Maunda in honor of the late MCA, who was a dedicated Ford Kenya supporter.”
Chikati also appealed to all aspirants to uphold peace and decorum throughout the campaign period. He assured that every candidate will have a fair opportunity to present their agenda to the electorate.
“Let us all conduct peaceful campaigns, free from intimidation and unnecessary drama,” he emphasized. “Everyone has the right to campaign in Kabuchai because Kenya is a democratic country that embraces diverse opinions.”
His sentiments were echoed by Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli who expressed confidence in the party’s candidate for the Chwele/Kabuchai Ward by-election.
The senator, while addressing supporters, took issue with Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga for his recent remarks suggesting that he would contest for the Ford Kenya party leader position after the 2027 general election. Wakoli termed the statement as disrespectful to the current party leader and Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.
“I am urging Majimbo to accord our Party Leader the utmost respect,” Wakoli said. “Majimbo knows very well that he became the Kabuchai MP through Wetang’ula’s support. It was the Speaker who personally led his campaign following the death of the then MP, James Mukwe. Therefore, he deserves respect from Majimbo.”
The senator further affirmed that Ford Kenya members will stand united in defending their leader, emphasizing that Wetang’ula is now focused on national politics and should not be dragged into local political disputes.
“The Speaker is currently concentrating on national leadership matters. As a party, we will not allow anyone to involve him in local politics or distract him from his national responsibilities,” Wakoli added.
In a bold challenge, Wakoli dared Majimbo to field his preferred candidate and face off at the ballot in the upcoming November 2027 elections.
Responding to the criticism, Majimbo maintained that he remains a loyal member of Ford Kenya, insisting that his focus is on safeguarding his political survival within the party.
