Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has promised Bungoma residents a fresh start anchored on infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment if elected governor.
Wanyonyi said Bungoma had the resources and human capital to drive its own growth without relying on outsiders.
“We have enough human capital in Bungoma. Let’s empower our own people instead of bringing in expertise from outside,” he told residents.
He pledged to prioritize education, insisting that every child must have a fair chance to succeed.
“Education is the key to a brighter Bungoma. Every child must have a chance to learn and succeed. As governor, I will make this a priority,” he added.
Wanyonyi also encouraged small traders and farmers, telling businesswomen in the crowd: “Prepare for a bumper harvest; your hard work will pay off.”
The rally drew leaders and supporters from across the county, including Mt. Elgon, who openly backed his bid. Former Mt. Elgon MCA Jane Chebet assured him of full support.
“In Mt. Elgon, we want a governor who will be a manager. We will walk with you every step of the way. We have seen the good things you have done in Westlands, and we ask you to bring those good things here,” she said.
Sirisia MP John Waluke, who also addressed the gathering, cautioned voters against what he described as “sympathy politics,” urging them to focus on leaders with real development track records.
“Some leaders are busy playing the sympathy card to get votes. Bungoma needs leaders with real development plans, not stories,” Waluke said.
Former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga echoed the warning, telling residents not to gamble with the county’s leadership.
“Bungoma needs a competent manager come 2027. You must be very careful about who you elect, so that the county can experience development without any form of discrimination,” he emphasized.
Mabonga added that a competitive race could strengthen democracy and improve leadership outcomes.
“When a county has many strong candidates, it increases the chances of getting good leaders,” he noted.
