The SACCO’s launch comes at a time when Kakamega is witnessing a surge in demand for fast, reliable, and compassionate financial services, especially among the youth, small-scale traders, and women-led groups.

SHOFCO SACCO has officially opened its Kakamega branch, confidently showcasing its financial muscle and community commitment. Located at the ground floor of Bema House along the busy Kakamega-Mumias Road.
The grand launch marks the organization’s ambitious entry into Western Kenya, with a vision to dominate the SACCO space by offering faster, friendlier, and more inclusive financial services.
The event drew in prospective clients, local leaders, and stakeholders who were eager to hear what SHOFCO—the acronym for Shining Hope for Communities—had to offer. True to its growing national reputation, the SACCO came prepared to disrupt the financial ecosystem with bold promises and proven leadership.
Dr. Kennedy Odede, the visionary behind SHOFCO and the current CEO, made a commitment of service to members

“We are not here to compete by excluding others. We welcome every member, even those already part of other SACCOs. This is about building community, dignity, and economic power through care,” said Dr. Odede.
The national CEO emphasized SHOFCO’s commitment to providing accessible credit to people often overlooked by mainstream financial institutions.
Known for transforming urban slums and rural communities through grassroots-driven development, SHOFCO now aims to empower individuals economically through SACCO membership and low-barrier access to credit.
Heading the newly launched branch is Madam Nelly Omondi, a determined and energetic financial leader who outlined a robust roadmap for their operations in Kakamega and beyond. “Our promise to Kakamega is simple but powerful: affordable credit, processed within seven days. We know time is money, and we won’t keep our members waiting,” she said.

She also noted that the SACCO would provide tailored financial products, including micro-loans for small traders, agribusiness support, and women-led initiatives—underscoring SHOFCO’s mission to empower grassroots communities.
Already, local traders and business owners are welcoming the new financial partner with open arms.
Jane Achieng, a vegetable vendor in Kakamega town, was among the early visitors at the branch.
“SHOFCO SACCO is exactly what we’ve been waiting for. Most SACCOs make us wait too long or demand complicated documents and thereafter waiting for months before the loan matures. But this feels like a SACCO for the people,” she said.
The SACCO’s launch comes at a time when Kakamega is witnessing a surge in demand for fast, reliable, and compassionate financial services, especially among the youth, small-scale traders, and women-led groups.
While other SACCOs have struggled with bureaucratic delays and rigid policies, SHOFCO is positioning itself as a flexible, member-first alternative.
In a region historically underserved by major banks and burdened with predatory lending practices, SHOFCO SACCO’s arrival signals hope.
Its national model has already demonstrated success in Nairobi, Kisumu, and other counties, with thousands of members benefitting from the fast and friendly services who also were present during the grand launch.
SHOFCO SACCO isn’t just another financial institution setting up shop in Kakamega. It’s a movement. A promise.
And for many, it’s the beginning of real, reachable financial freedom.“This is not just a branch. This is a bridge—to opportunity, to dignity, and to prosperity,” Dr. Odede concluded.
