Coca-Cola has announced a significant price reduction on its popular 500ml glass bottle. The beverage giant has launched a new three-month regional campaign dubbed ‘Shika Mzito’, which translates to ‘hold it strong’ or ‘get it solid’, slashing the price from Ksh60 to just Ksh50.
The campaign, which kicked off immediately, will roll out across ten counties: Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia.
This strategic price adjustment is a direct celebration of the hard work, resilience, and vibrant spirit that defines the communities in these regions.
Weslene Orwoba, Senior Marketing Manager for Coca-Cola Kenya, highlighted the deep connection between the iconic 500ml bottle and the strong community bonds prevalent in Nyanza and Western Kenya.
“Whether it’s sharing a refreshing drink after a long day of work, during a casual break, or while passionately cheering for local football teams, these are the moments that bring people together,” she said. “Our ‘Shika Mzito’ campaign is our way of acknowledging and enhancing these moments by making their favourite Coca-Cola beverage more affordable.”
The 500ml glass bottle, affectionately known as ‘madiaba’ in the local dialect, is being positioned as a symbol of pride and a well-deserved everyday reward for the region’s unsung heroes.
This includes the dedicated farmers who toil the land, the hardworking fishermen who brave the waters, the passionate football fans who fill the stadiums, the reliable boda boda riders who connect communities, the committed teachers who shape young minds, the skilled artisans who craft with their hands, and numerous others who contribute significantly to the fabric of their communities.
Coca-Cola has long been an integral part of the vibrant football culture and community celebrations in Nyanza and Western Kenya, a region that proudly boasts legendary teams like Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Shabana FC.
“Community is everything in Nyanza and Western regions, and celebrations, both big and small, are deeply ingrained in the culture,” Ms. Orwoba emphasized. “With ‘Shika Mzito’, we aim to be an even greater part of these moments, providing more reasons for people to come together and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.”
This price reduction underscores Coca-Cola’s enduring commitment to the traditions, passions, and core values that define the Nyanza and Western regions of Kenya.
