The final preparations for the highly anticipated Sirikwa Classic Marathon concluded today with a joint press conference held at the Boma Inn Hotel in Eldoret.

This year’s event, set to take place on February 22, 2025, promises a thrilling showcase of talent, particularly highlighting the participation and achievements of women athletes.

Among the headline participants is world record holder and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, who will face off against rising marathon star Agnes Chebet in the elite women’s 10KM race. Their participation has heightened anticipation, as both athletes boast remarkable international success.

Speaking during the press conference, Kipyegon expressed confidence in her preparation. “I have been on a strict training routine, and this season is well-prepared for. Since participating in the Sirikwa Classic in 2023, I have achieved great success, including winning three global titles,” she stated.

Agnes Chebet, eager to challenge her global counterparts, emphasized the importance of such competitions in honing her skills. “Competing against champions like Faith motivates me to push my limits. It’s an opportunity to test myself on home soil against some of the best in the world,” she remarked.

Athletics Kenya President, General Jackson Tuwei, commended the increasing prominence of women in athletics, noting that female athletes have brought more medals to Kenya than their male counterparts.

“We encourage more men to engage in track events to balance our national achievements, but we are immensely proud of the contributions our women athletes continue to make on the global stage,” Tuwei said.

Patrick Sang, renowned coach and former athlete, lauded the presence of top-tier competitors in the women’s category, emphasizing the positive influence on aspiring runners.

“Faith and Agnes competing here will challenge upcoming athletes to elevate their performance. Racing against world-class athletes provides invaluable experience and inspiration,” Sang noted.

Winners of both the men’s and women’s elite races will each receive Ksh 780,000, a significant increase aimed at motivating participants.
