Andrew Lomosi, a visionary businessman, has spent over 15 years dedicated to uplifting his community through the Leading on Mobilising Societal Initiatives (The LOMOSI Foundation), an organization he founded in honor of his late father, Harun John Muduya Lomosi.
His father, an engineer known for his extensive philanthropic efforts, passed away in 2012, leaving behind a legacy that Andrew is committed to preserving and expanding.
Born and raised in Givogi village, Banja Ward, Andrew’s life has been marked by a deep connection to his community and a passion for environmental sustainability, education, and empowerment.
After attending Givogi Primary School in 2000, where he sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Andrew continued his studies at Chavakali Boys High School before completing his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Givogi Secondary School. His good performance took him to Egerton University where he pursued a degree in Bsc Natural Resources Management.
“It’s not just about sending students to school; it’s about giving them the tools they need to thrive. By offering financial literacy talks, soft skills development, and access to TVET institutions, we are equipping the next generation with more than just an education – we are preparing them for life,” ~ Andrew.
He has a Master in Energy Technology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Entrepreneurship from Strathmore University.
He has also gone ahead to pursue strategic short courses in business and energy both done locally and internationally.
Over the past decade and a half, Andrew has spearheaded a variety of impactful projects, each designed to address pressing issues within his community. One of his most notable efforts done by Andrew includes rehabilitation of degraded riparian land in Hamisi and the reforestation of local forests, a project aimed at combating environmental degradation and preserving the local ecosystem for future generations.
“We cannot ignore the damage being done to our environment. The reforestation of our forests is just the beginning. It’s a small step, but if everyone plays their part, we can restore our ecosystems and protect the natural beauty that surrounds us,” said Andrew.
In addition to environmental conservation, education has been at the forefront of Andrew’s initiatives. The Lomosi Foundation has helped sponsor numerous students to attend secondary school, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their access to education.
His support has extended to Gambaragai Primary School, where he played a crucial role in securing the institution’s registration as a KCPE examination center. Moreover, Andrew partnered with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) to bring electricity to the school, and equipped its computer laboratory to enhance the learning experience.
He has also sponsored feeding programs for Class Eight candidates during national exams, providing them with the nourishment needed to excel in the exams.
His philanthropic spirit extends to helping students who were unable to collect their KCSE certificates due to outstanding fees. Through The Lomosi Foundation, these students are not only supported in clearing their arrears but are also sponsored to join local Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
“It’s not just about sending students to school; it’s about giving them the tools they need to thrive. By offering financial literacy talks, soft skills development, and access to TVET institutions, we are equipping the next generation with more than just an education – we are preparing them for life,” said Andrew.
