Cleophas Shimanyula alias ‘Toto’ a new contender and with a rich background in the sport as a football administrator, he has decided to throw his hat into the ring for the presidency of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Mr Shimanyula who is out to shake up the status quo in the governance of football in the country, launched his campaigns and for the last few days, he is all over the region trying to solidify his support base.
He said his vision is focused on grassroots development and nurturing young talent. “We must invest in our youth,” he stated at a rally packed with fans and aspiring players. “They are the future of Kenyan football. I want to create pathways for them to succeed, both on and off the field.”
The Kakamega Homeboyz founder spoke about the need for transparency and accountability within the FKF. “Football is a beautiful game, but we need to ensure that our governance reflects the values of fairness and integrity. The federation must be a beacon of hope for all stakeholders.”
Among his key reforms is fostering collaboration between clubs, players, and local communities. He envisions a federative structure that allows for greater participation from all levels of the game. “We need to listen to the voices of our clubs and communities. Together, we can build a stronger football ecosystem,” he asserted.
He will be deputised by Twaha Mubarak Bandari FC’s chairman thus forming a stronger team to replace Nick Mwendwa at Kandanda House.
Shimanyula vowed to improve the FKF premier League, National Super League and the women’s Premier League and improve training for both coaches and referees.
He however, dismissed the claims that he is a project of Mwendwa. “ I am the only person who has come out clearly to oppose him .Those who become projects are driven by poverty, I run my business and I’m priceless, no one can manage my price whether an MP or a governor,” he said.
Upon resuming the office, he has pledged to restructure Kenya’s national team Harambee Stars to be inclusive, saying the club is predominated by players from Kariobangi Sharks.
Twaha, his running mate called upon the government and FIFA to release funds to facilitate the coming election. He emphasized that there is much need to ensure transparency and eligibility.
“We need to know if there is enough funds to facilitate elections and if not so the government and FIFA to ensure funds are available to carry out the entire process. “ Adding, “We cannot trust the electoral board that governs elections to be office holders. They should vacate Kandanda House.”
