Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned President William Ruto against orchestrating his impeachment.
Gachagua cautioned Ruto not to fall to the politics of betrayal akin to what happened between him and his predecessor, President Uhuru Kenyatta, when the latter served as his deputy.
Speaking during a church service at Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church in Thika Town, Kiambu County, Gachagua called on the president to protect him from the onslaught to remove him from office.
“I want to call on President Ruto to be cautious and do the right thing, let us keep our house in order and not reintroduce politics of betrayal,” he said.
He said that President Ruto is the greatest beneficiary of the people of Mt Kenya’s distaste for betrayal during Uhuru’s regime and as such, he should avoid the politics of betrayal and start digging his own political grave.
“Our people hate betrayal and they are very unforgiving if you betray them. I ask my brother not to be tempted to go in that direction because these people will be very unforgiving,” said Gachagua.
The DP asserted that the people from Mount Kenya region stood with Ruto to show their displeasure when he was being mistreated during Uhuru’s tenure.
Gachagua said that keeping, the Head of State should keep the promise by saving his office from humiliation.
“Our people hate betrayal and they are very unforgiving if you betray them. I ask my brother not to be tempted to go in that direction because these people will be very unforgiving,” said Gachagua
“To protect my office, it requires no IMF of World Bank funding. If Ruto fails to keep this promise, he cannot be trusted to fulfill any promise he promised Kenyans during the campaign period,” said Gachagua
However, he acknowledged that the president has a chance to harmonize issues that are rocking his government to ensure they execute their mandate and fulfill their promises to the people of Kenya.
“I still think there is room for the president to talk to everyone so that we get back to work and deliver the many promises that we have given to the country,” he said.
