By Kevin Sang, Eldoret

Uasin Gishu County has officially joined the global movement to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as part of the annual “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.

The campaign kicked off today, with a strong emphasis on raising awareness and advocating for measures to prevent and address violence against women and girls.

In a report by Karen Young, it was highlighted that “the plight of women and girls is of utmost importance,” a statement that resonated deeply with Uasin Gishu County, which has been affected by GBV in various forms.

This acknowledgment has spurred the county to implement sincere advocacy measures aimed at combating the scourge of violence.

In Eldoret city, a sensitization walk was organized, with participants including community members, activists, local leaders, and journalists.

The walk, which began at Zion Mall Road and ended at the Uasin Gishu County offices, aimed to increase public awareness about the severity of GBV and the need for collective action to address it.

The media’s role in fighting GBV was also emphasized during the forum. James Gitaka, Chairman of the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association, spoke passionately about the pivotal role the media plays in educating the public and advocating for the rights of victims.

Gitaka underscored the media’s responsibility in sensitizing the community and helping to create a supportive environment for victims of violence.

This initiative is a significant step toward a violence-free society, with Uasin Gishu County joining the global call to action for the protection of women and girls from violence.
