The Water Project FC triumphed over Boda Boda FC in a high-stakes penalty shootout, advancing to the finals of the Wevarsity Sacco Akiba Derby.
They emerged victorious after humiliating Boda Boda FC 4-2 in a penalty shootout, after a nail-biting goalless draw.
Both teams fought hard, displaying incredible determination and skills, but neither could find the back of the net during regular play. As the match went to penalties, The Water Project FC held onto their nerve, converting four of their spot-kicks while Boda Boda faltered with two misses.
With this hard-fought victory, Water Project FC advanced to the finals, where they will face Wevarsity Sacco FC, who clinched their place with a narrow 1-0 win over Kudheiha FC in stoppage time. The match was a nail-biter, and a late goal secured Wevarsity’s spot in the championship.
After the thrilling victory over Boda Boda FC, Wycliffe Kereda, the coach of The Water Project FC, expressed his pride in the team’s performance. “It was a tough match, but our players showed incredible resilience and composure under pressure,” he said. “Winning on penalties is always a mental game, and I’m proud of how we held our nerve.”
Looking ahead to the finals against Wevarsity Sacco FC, Mr Kereda emphasized the importance of preparation. “We know Wevarsity is a strong team, but we have a game plan in place. We’ll focus on our strengths and make sure we’re ready to execute our strategy. The finals are a different challenge, and we’re committed to giving it our all.”
Isaiah Sikhuli, the team’s captain emphasized the importance of teamwork and focus saying: “This tournament has brought us closer as a unit, and our belief in each other is stronger than ever. We’ll go into the finals with confidence and determination.”
After Wevarsity Sacco FC’s narrow 1-0 victory over Kudheiha FC, Coach Dalmas Wala cum the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sacco expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“I’m proud of the boys for showing grit and determination today. It wasn’t an easy match, but we executed our game plan effectively, and that late goal made all the difference,” said Mr Wala
“Looking ahead to the finals against The Water Project FC, we know we’ll face a formidable opponent. They’ve proven themselves strong in this tournament, and we respect their capabilities. However, we’ve been preparing rigorously, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses, and we’re ready to rise to the occasion,” Wala said
Ian Kiprotich, the team’s Captain said that their focus will be on maintaining their defensive solidity while capitalizing on their attacking opportunities.
“This final is our chance to showcase our growth as a team, and we’re determined to bring home the trophy,” said Mr Kiprotich, adding, “We’re in this together, and the support from our fans will be crucial. We’re excited for what’s to come,”
Boda Boda FC and Kudheiha FC will face off in the playoffs. All the matches will kick off at 3.00Pm at Masinde Muliro University Soccer and Rugby grounds.
Meanwhile, the Kusu Netball Team’s impressive victory over Wevarsity Sacco Netball team has set the stage for an equally thrilling netball final. Meanwhile, in the netball tournament, Kusu Netball Team showcased their dominance, defeating Wevarsity Sacco Netball team 13-5. With this victory, Kusu will also head to the finals, setting up an exciting rematch with Wevarsity Sacco Netball.
The Wevarsity Sacco Akiba Derby is more than just a tournament; it marks the launch of a new Pikipiki loan product and opens membership to the public. Initially serving members of MMUST, the SACCO is expanding its reach, aiming to support the local community with accessible financial solutions.
