Shinyalu Member of Parliament Fred Ikana has commissioned a new storey tuition block at Ivakale Primary and Junior Secondary School, in what he described as a milestone for the constituency’s education sector.
The modern block, which houses eight classrooms, is the first facility of its kind to be officially handed over since Ikana assumed office.
Speaking during the ceremony, the MP said the project reflects his broader agenda of improving the learning environment across Shinyalu.
“Education is at the heart of my development plan,” said Ikana. “We want these students to be committed in learning in the new building, pass their exams, proceed to university, and come back to Shinyalu to support leaders in developing the area.”
The legislator assured parents and learners that more school projects are underway, in line with his campaign promises. He noted that Shinyalu has suffered decades of underdevelopment but pledged to reverse the trend through investment in education.

“Through my efforts and commitments, I will ensure school projects are completed to uplift education standards in this constituency,” he said.
Ikana expressed gratitude to fellow leaders for their support in championing education.
He singled out Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali, Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, and several religious leaders for standing with him on education matters.
He particularly praised Shinali, a member of the Salvation Army, for his consistency in supporting schools across the region. “Hon. Shinali has demonstrated that education is above politics and denomination. His support has never been discriminatory, and that is commendable,” said Ikana.
Parents and community members welcomed the move, saying it will ease congestion and improve learning conditions at Ivakale.
Teachers noted that the facility would also help Junior Secondary learners transition smoothly.
