Political activist Timothy Vikiru has raised concern over rising cases of livestock theft in Lurambi Constituency, pledging to make security and protection of residents’ property key issues in his 2027 parliamentary bid.
Vikiru said residents were increasingly concerned about livestock losses, noting that animals remain an important source of income and food for many households.
Speaking at PEFA Church in Emakusi, Butsotso East Ward, after donating 50 seats and a tent to the church, Vikiru called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb livestock theft.
“It is unfortunate that our people are losing their livestock to criminals. We need our security agencies to take this matter seriously and ensure residents can live and work without fear,” Vikiru said.
He said livestock theft was not only a security concern but also an economic setback for families that depend on animals for their livelihoods.
“When a farmer loses a cow, goat or sheep, it is not simply an animal that has been stolen. It is a family’s investment and, in some cases, their livelihood,” he said.
Vikiru, who is eyeing the Lurambi parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, also pledged to push for improved electricity services across the constituency.
He criticised what he described as poor service delivery by the electricity distributor, saying residents continued to experience challenges despite electricity being an essential service.
“We cannot talk about development when some of our people are still struggling with unreliable electricity. This is an issue that must be addressed,” Vikiru said.
He cited the death of a child in Shitungu village, which he linked to an electricity-related incident, and called for greater attention to public safety.
“We must ask ourselves how such incidents happen and what can be done to prevent them. The safety of our people must come first,” he said.
Vikiru said his agenda would focus on issues affecting residents at the grassroots, including security, electricity and access to basic services.
“Leadership is about listening to the people and finding solutions to the challenges they face every day. These are the issues I want to keep raising,” he said.
His remarks come as political activity gathers pace in Lurambi ahead of the 2027 General Election, with aspirants using community gatherings to engage residents and articulate their priorities.
Vikiru said he would continue meeting residents across the constituency as he seeks to build support ahead of the polls.
