Isiolo county police have launched a major operation aimed at dismantling drug networks and curbing the growing menace of drug trafficking and abuse in the region.
This comes after security forces successfully intercepted 200 kilograms of bhang, estimated a street Sh6 million, at Kampi Samaki. The drugs were being transported to Garbatulla Sub county when they were seized by the police.
While addressing the media, Isiolo County Police Commander Moses Mutisya confirmed that the drugs were found in a vehicle that was en route to Garbatulla.
“Our investigation is ongoing to ensure that those who escaped are arrested and brought to book ~ Mutisya
“We caution all drug lords that our security teams have initiated an operation to arrest all those involved in the illegal trade of drugs in this county. We will not rest until these criminal networks are dismantled,” Mutisya stated.
The operation has already led to the arrest of the vehicle’s owner, who is currently being held at Isiolo Police Station.
However, two other suspects who were allegedly involved in transporting the drugs managed to escape during the interception. Mutisya confirmed that the police are actively pursuing the fugitives. “Our investigation is ongoing to ensure that those who escaped are arrested and brought to book,” he added.
The county’s top security officer praised the swift action of the security team and highlighted the potential harm the drugs could have caused, especially to the youth. “This consignment of drugs could have had a devastating effect on young people, particularly students who are home for the holidays. We must protect them from such harmful substances,” Mutisya said.
The arrested suspect, the owner of the car, is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Police are also urging members of the public to cooperate by sharing any information that could lead to the identification and capture of more perpetrators.
Mutisya emphasized that “this is just the beginning” of a larger crackdown on drug trafficking in the county. “The security agencies are working tirelessly to rid the county of this illegal business. We urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drugs,” he said.
