Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana is a man between a hard place and a rock.
If the unfolding events in the constituency and trending social media hashtags is anything to go by, then the first time legislator is man under siege with his political future hanging in the balance.
Area residents are accusing the MP of defrauding them of millions of shillings through a money-making scheme that has left many families devastated.
“I trusted him with my savings, hoping for a better future for my family. Now, not only have I lost my hard-earned money, but the man we elected to represent us has turned his back on us,” said one of the constituents who invested in the scheme, saying, “He promised us returns, but all we’ve received is betrayal. We just want our money back and justice to be served,”
According to multiple reports, Ikana allegedly convinced constituents to invest their hard-earned money into money market funds, promising them lucrative returns that would double their investments.
The situation has sparked anger and frustration among his voters, with many demanding that the MP be arrested and prosecuted for his actions. “We trusted him with our money, and now he is nowhere to be found,” one of the investors lamented. “This is a betrayal of the highest order, and we want justice.”
In a phone interview with County Splash, Mr Ikana denied the allegations and dared his accusers to produce any evidence to that effect and termed the claims as baseless and malicious.
“Those claims are just hogwash and pure propaganda. Let them produce any concrete evidence to back up their claims. I am more than ready to take them to court and clear my name,” said Ikana
“These are the same people the President was talking about when he spoke about mob lynching of leaders without facts,” Ikana added, referring to comments made by President William Ruto about how some individuals are quick to attack leaders with unfounded claims. “This is a political smear campaign. I will not sit back and allow people to tarnish my reputation without proof.”
The MP also claimed that he is investigating the origin of these allegations, suggesting that there are individuals behind the smear campaign who will be “brought to book.” He did not provide further details about the investigation but emphasized that he would not tolerate what he termed as “falsehoods.”
“I am investigating the origin of all this, and some people will be held accountable for spreading these lies,” Ikana asserted.
However, despite his strong response, the investors are said to have begun working together to build a case against the MP, with hopes of holding him accountable in a court of law.

He also tweeted: “Nine victims now voice their plight, calling out Ikana for unreturned funds. Is it time for Shinyalu to demand accountability from its MP, or risk normalizing leadership tainted by mistrust?
