The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) hosted a pivotal training session for the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) in Eldoret, aiming to enhance awareness about competition laws and regulations among manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers.
The workshop was part of the CAK’s ongoing efforts to promote fair competition and ensure a level playing field in Kenya’s business landscape.
The session, held at a local conference facility, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from the manufacturing sector.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Samwel Boya, a senior CAK official, expressed the importance of the Authority’s role in creating a fair marketplace. “Our mission is to ensure that businesses can thrive in an environment where competition is healthy and consumers benefit from the best products and services,” Boya said.
He also emphasized that ensuring fairness in the marketplace is essential to the long-term success of the Kenyan economy. “Fair competition is not just good for business; it’s good for the economy as a whole. It encourages innovation, reduces prices, and ensures consumers get the best possible value.”
The training covered several key aspects of competition policy, focusing on practical applications for manufacturers and their partners. Topics discussed included the Merger Policy, Cartel Control, Monopolies and Retailer Rights.
Mr. David Kibet Kemei Rotuk, Director General of CAK, delivered a powerful message to the attendees, reiterating the Authority’s commitment to upholding constitutional mandates.
“The CAK remains dedicated to safeguarding consumer interests, fostering innovation, and ensuring economic growth through fair competition,” Rotuk said. “Our aim is not only to regulate but also to empower business leaders with the knowledge to thrive in a competitive market.”
The CAK’s proactive approach to engaging stakeholders, as demonstrated by today’s workshop, underscores its dedication to fostering a competitive and transparent market. By equipping manufacturers and other business players with essential knowledge on competition law, the Authority continues to play a crucial role in strengthening Kenya’s economy and safeguarding consumer rights.
The training in Eldoret is part of a broader national strategy to enhance awareness and compliance with competition laws across various sectors. The CAK’s ongoing efforts are vital in ensuring that the Kenyan market remains dynamic, innovative, and consumer-friendly.
