Hamisi sub county Sports Officer, Timothy Ondeko will be vying for the Vihiga Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairmanship seat in the forthcoming branch elections, a move that complicates the equation for the outgoing officials who are said to be interested in seeking re-election.
Mr Ondeko, 32, is preparing for a challenge that would change the course of his career and says that he is ready to take on the mantle of leadership in the management of football affairs in the county.
“As a graduate of sports science, I understand the importance of development at all levels. Together, we can create pathways for our youth to thrive in football,” said Ondeko, adding, “My experience as a physio and coach has taught me that our local clubs need support and resources. I am committed to fostering an environment where talent can flourish.”
Ondeko says: “This isn’t just about my vision; it’s about all of us. I invite every player, coach, and supporter to join me in shaping the future of football in Vihiga.”
He said that he believes in transparency, accountability, and community engagement, saying that if elected, he will work tirelessly to ensure that every decision is made in the best interest of the football family.
Ondeko avers that football teams in the county deserve the best facilities, coaching, and opportunities in order elevate Vihiga as a destination of sports tourism.
Timothy is not just another candidate; he is a product of the very community he is seeking to lead. A proud graduate of Sports Science from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) where he cultivated his knowledge of the game both in the classroom and on the field.
His early days as a physio at Kakamega Homeboyz FC granted him invaluable insights into the physical demands of the sport, and as a former coach at Bunyore Starlets, he had honed his skills in nurturing young talent.
His journey wasn’t just about personal ambition. Growing up in Luanda Sub County, he had witnessed firsthand the challenges facing local clubs—the lack of resources, inadequate training facilities, and the struggle to maintain youth engagement in sports. With each game, he felt a deep-seated desire to make a difference, to be the catalyst for change in a community that had given him so much.
Timothy’s CAF certification is a testament to his commitment and expertise. However, as he prepares to enter into the political arena, he knows that he would need more than his credentials.
He needs a vision—a vision that resonated with players, coaches, and fans alike, which he says, he will unveil it in his manifesto soon.
“We need to invest in our youth,” he said. “We must create pathways for talent to flourish, ensuring that our local teams have the support they need to compete at higher levels,” said Ondeko
His charisma and genuine passion has begun to draw support from all corners of the county. Former teammates and players he coached are rallying behind him, spreading the word about his candidacy. “Timothy is one of us,” they said in a meeting today. “He understands the struggles and the dreams of our community.”
“The forthcoming election isn’t just about electing a chairperson,” he declared passionately. “It’s about choosing a future for Vihiga County football! A future where every player, coach, and fan feels valued and empowered!”
“Together, we will build a legacy. We will ensure that Vihiga County becomes a powerhouse of football talent!”
With that, a new chapter has begun—not just for me, but for the entire community. Under my leadership, the future of Vihiga football looks brighter than ever before.
