Savula to President Ruto : Give DP position back to the mountain if Gachagua is impeached, Luhyas not interested in the position

By Faith Anene, Kakamega

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has said that Luhyas are not interested in the deputy president position should DP Rigathi Gachagua be impeached by parliament.

Savula said that Luhyas were wrongfully being accused of fighting Gachagua to take his seat.

Although Luhya elected leaders were supporting the impeachment of the DP, they were not interested in the position should it fall vacant.

“As Luhyas we’re satisfied by the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, CSs Wycliffe Oparanya and Health CS Debora Mulongo, PSs and other parastatal chiefs. We are focused on 2032 when we will stand behind one Luhya candidate,” said Savula

He said that the DP seat should be given to someone from Mt. Kenya region because it belonged to them.

“Even if the president talks to MPs to spare Gachagua, he may not change. He does not respect MPs,” ~ Savula

Addressing the press in his office on Tuesday, Savula said that leaders from Western will make a declaration that they are not interested in the seat.

He said that Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki was the best suites to replace Gachagua if he is removed from office.

Savula that President William Ruto may not be able to save his deputy even if he chose to intervene.

“Even if the president talks to MPs to spare Gachagua, he may not change. He does not respect MPs,” Savula said.

Lurambi MP Titus Khamala said that the prerogative of deciding who should replace Gachagua should his impeachment go through is with the Kenya Kwanza administration and President Ruto.

He said that the ODM wing will not be involved in choosing Gachagua’s replacement if the impeachment went through.

“But if the choice come our way as Luhya community, we’ll not say no. We’ll greatfully take it because you cannot work with plans for 2032 because there is no permanency in politics,” Khama said.

Khamala said that there are leaders from the community who are capable of serving as DP if given an opportunity.
