Pastor Makenzie forced my sons to drink blood and eat human flesh in Shakahola forest, says Mumias parent

Benson Mutimba, 46, from Mwitoti area in Mumias East Sub County has seen it all.

His son, Ian Mukungu, a form two student at Ambira High School starved to death after attending cultic teachings by Malindi-based controversial televangelist, Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church.

His elder son, Felix Ndeda, 25, an ex-student at Kibabii University who took his siblings to Makenzie’s church is still missing together with his younger brother Victor Maleche.

Efforts by Mutimba to try and get his children either dead or alive in Shakahola have been futile.

They even took DNA samples to see whether their sons are among the over 300 bodies exhumed from Shakahola forest but no concrete answers have been forthcoming.

But his tribulations started way back in 2019 when his children were first taken to Makenzie’s church.

“My children after I rescued them from Makenzie’s church, they denounced education, burnt there academic certificates, and claimed that Huduma Number was satanic,” said Mutimba

In fact, Mackenzie told his children to convince Mutimba and his wife to sell their property and take the money to him.

“My eldest son told me the world was coming to an end,” said Mutimba, adding that he tried convincing the mother to quit her teaching job and join Pastor Makenzie who was to help them ‘meet’ Jesus Christ.

“I gave Felix Sh6000 and he left for Kibabii University.  The younger children also left for school the following day. That evening on my way back from Kitale, I got a phone call from my wife telling me that the kids had not returned home,” he said

Mutimba took upon himself and reached Makenzie on phone and he echoed sentiments made by his eldest son that they should join his church for them to go to heaven.

After thorough counseling sessions and intervention by the police, his sons agreed to go back to school.

Mutimba made several calls to the school but the teachers said they had not seen them, his eldest son’s phone call was off and even when he went to Kibabii, he was not there.

He made a visit to a Malindi based church and was told that his children had been at the church but went into hiding when they saw him coming with the police.

He came back home and on arrival, his eldest son reached him on the phone saying that Pastor Makenzie wanted to talk to him.

“I am the only pastor in the world preaching the gospel of heaven and the kids are in safe hands,” Makenzie told Mutimba on phone.

Makenzie tom him “You should come with your family and listen to what I preach and if it doesn’t please you then you are free to leave,”

He said he went back to Malindi, together with the help of the police, they went to search for his kids at the church.

“There was a coffin on the altar and when I stepped outside, I could see a number of graves. When the search proved to be futile, MaKenzie instructed me to go back with the officers and that he would bring me my kids in the evening at the station,” said Mutimba

At the station, he discovered that the sub county police commander was working with Makenzie, saying a junior officer at the station advised him that night to board a bus and go back home since his security wasn’t assured and he heed to the advice.

Mutimba said he went to the media and after the story was aired by leading media houses in the country, he got a call from the Makenzie’s agent who told him that his children had been found and warned me against tarnishing the pastor’s name.

The distraught parent sent Sh10, 000 to his eldest son who brought his younger brothers home, but went back to Malindi.

He said the children were in a very poor state when they came back, then taken to Kakamega police station for guiding and counseling. After regaining health, they agreed to go back to school.

In February this year, Mutimba’s eldest son came home during half term and reminded his siblings of the oath they took, which he said, must be fulfilled.

He said that he was summoned to Ambira High School to go pick up his son who teachers said had refused to eat and his health had deteriorated.

“At the hospital bed, my late son told me that Makenzie forced them to eat fresh human meat and drink human blood after taking the oath of never revealing the secrets of the cult’s teachings. His name had been changed to ‘Queen Elizabeth from the ocean,” said Mutimba

He took him to the hospital but after several tests were conducted, no disease was found.

He was given painkillers and discharged but his health did not improve.

“At the hospital bed, my late son told me that Makenzie forced them to eat fresh human meat and drink human blood after taking the oath of never revealing the secrets of the cult’s teachings. His name had been changed to ‘Queen Elizabeth from the ocean,” said Mutimba

Mutimba revealed that his late son told him that by the time their elder brother (Felix) took them to Makenzie, he had already taken the oath after drinking human blood and eating human meat.

He said Felix was given a golden ring, eggs, a necklace with a cross and eight sim cards, saying after the revelations, his condition became critical and died a few hours later.

“He died on March 28; he died while smiling though he was in great pain. He starved to death,” said Mutimba

“I had six kids, currently I have been left with three kids. Two of them are still in Shakahola and one is dead, “he added
