Raila’s term as AU infrastructure envoy ends

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s term as the African Union special envoy for Infrastructure Development has ended.

This is after a new agency was set up to take up the continental mandate. AU is seeking continental integration through infrastructure development.

Raila was appointed on October 20, 2018 during President Emeritus Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki said that Raila has diligently served his role during his tenure.

“Your role in this journey, Excellency, has been invaluable. Allow me to express my profound gratitude for accepting to serve in this role during the transition period, which has now come to a happy conclusion,’’ said  Mr Faki.

‘The African Union hopes to continue counting on your support for other possible assignments. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours,” he added.

He said that Raila contributed at facilitating the development and modernization of missing links along the trans-African Highways Network which was a great step in integration of Africa.

“Mr Odinga’s efforts in building on the work of PIDA presidential Infrastructure Champion Initiative through mobilizing political support and development assistance from member states and regional economic communities will forever be remembered,:” said Faki
