Eacc grills Governor Fernandes Barasa over graft allegations

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa spend the better part of today at the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices being grilled over alleged corruption during his tenure at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco).

Eacc summoned Governor Barasa last week to answer to queries over suspected fraudulent payments to Lake Turkana Wind Power for a project in Marsabit.

The anti corruption agency will release details on the case at a later stage when the investigations in the case is concluded

According to Yasmin Amaro, the Eacc spokesman, Barasa arrived at the Integrity centre at 9.30am.

By the time of going to the press, the second governor of Kakamega was still being grilled.

The MPs were seeking to know how Sh600million in excess was allegedly paid to Lake Turkana Wind Power.

Barasa resigned as Ketraco CEO in February this year, two months before the expiry of his tenure in April. He went to become Kakamega Governor after beating his close rival Cleophas Malala.

MPs of the last parliament questioned the motive of his early exit from office.

The MPs were seeking to know how Sh600million in excess was allegedly paid to Lake Turkana Wind Power.

Mr Amaro said the anti corruption agency will release details on the case at a later stage when the investigations in the case is concluded.
