Opinion Poll: Okomba Sakwa ahead of Wamatsi by 18 percent 4 days to elections

The Mumias East parliamentary race has narrowed down to a two horse race between Dr Philip Okomba Sakwa (Independent Candidate) and David Wamatsi of the Amani National Congress (ANC).

With just five days to the August 9 general elections, Dr Okomba Sakwa has emerged to be the most popular candidate at 36.29 per cent (647 votes) followed by Mr Wamatsi at 17.44 per cent (311votes).

This means if elections was to be held today, then Okomba will succeed Benjamin Washiali as the next Mumias East MP. Washiali has since retired from politics after serving the constituency for 15 years.

The poll that was commissioned and conducted by the County Splash between July 20- July 29 this year, places Peter Kalerwa Salasya (DAP-K) at the third position with 15.31 per cent (273 votes), Dr Benson Mapwoni (UDA) at the fourth position with 12.73 per cent (227 votes) while Lucas Radoli Ochami of ODM polled at the fifth position with 9.25 per cent (165 votes).

Samuel Ambrose (MDP) and Paul Makokha both had 1.29 per cent (23 votes) to tie at the sixth position whereas the undecided voters were 6.40 per cent (114 votes).

The sample size of 2,000 respondents but only 1,783 were reached with a margin of error of +/-ve 1 with 97 per cent confidence of the poll results. The poll was conducted through telephone interviews and impromptu face to face interviews.

 With at least 6 per cent of the respondents yet to make their decision on who to vote for, the figures could change depending on the finishing power of each candidate.
