Revealed: What new Mmust VC and his deputies scored to secure the top jobs

Prof Solomon Shibairo emerged the top candidate out of the seven applicants who were invited for interviews conducted by the Public Service Commission (PSC) for the Vice Chancellor position.

Shibairo scored 86.6 per cent beating Professors Mary Abukutsa and Sibilike Khamala Makhanu who scored 68 per cent and 66.2 per cent respectively.

The other four applicants were professors Joseph Sarima Chacha, Kenneth Inyani Simala, Peter Nyamuhanga Mwita and Paul Shiundu Mwanza.

Shibairo scored 86.6 per cent beating Professors Mary Abukutsa and Sibilike Khamala Makhanu who scored 68 per cent and 66.2 per cent respectively.

The professor of horticulture and agronomy will now serve as Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Mmust) for a period of five years between September 2021 – September 2026.

He becomes the third VC of the institution succeeding the late Prof Fredrick Otieno who was the second VC. Prof Wangila Barasa was the founding VC.

 The ex Kibabii University DVC in charge of Academics and Students Affairs took  over from Prof Asenath Sigot who had been acting for nine months after the exit of Prof Joseph Bosire in July 2019 year who was in charge for seven months.

Prof John Kuria Thuo, who was appointed as the DVC in charge of Finance and Administration scored 78 per cent beating professors Charles Mutai and Ruth Tubey who scored 75 per cent and 69 per cent respectively.

The ex Kibabii University DVC in charge of Academics and Students Affairs took  over from Prof Asenath Sigot who had been acting for nine months after the exit of Prof Joseph Bosire in July 2019 year who was in charge for seven months.

Prof Mutai who has been the acting VC for Finance and Administration at Mmust for the last 10 months is now the new DVC in charge of Planning, Research and Innovation and scored 82.3 per cent against Prof Eng. Paul Wambua and Prof Collins Ouma who got 81 per cent and 77.6 per cent.

Prof Hussein Golicha, the new DVC in charge of Academics and Students Affairs scored 70.5 per cent beating Prof Ouma Wanjala and Prof Peter Barasa who scored 68.5 per cent and 66. 5 per cent.
