- Front line Health workers
- All individuals in health facilities
- Critical services
- Teaching and non-teaching staff in all educational institutions.
- Uniformed forces and immigration officers
- Instructors in religious institutions
- The County Government is targeting to vaccinate
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has launched the rollout of the Covid 19 vaccine, which targets over 27,000 front line workers from the county.
Oparanya while launching the vaccination program at Kakamega County Teaching and Referral hospital on March 12 , said that Kakamega received 12,000 doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford Covid-19 vaccines for phase one.
“The launch of the vaccination campaign in Kakamega is a boost to my Government’s efforts to control the spread of the virus and ensure safety of our people. The vaccine is effective in protecting individuals from getting severe Covid-19 disease and boosting an individual’s immunity to fight the virus if infected,” said Oparanya.
The county boss said the first phase targets the following front line health workers, critical services; teaching and non-teaching staff in all educational institutions, uniformed forces; immigration officers and instructors in religious institutions
The County Government is targeting to vaccinate 27,638 people in the first phase of the exercise.
5,000 medics from public health facilities and 400 from private hospitals, 15,368 teachers in public schools and 2,670 teachers from private schools, 2000 lecturers from Masinde Muliro University, 700 lecturers in private institutions, 1,200 police officers and 300 county enforcement officers will be the first persons to get the jab.
“We expect more vaccines in due course to complete all the phases of the vaccination. The phase two of the vaccination exercise that will target members of the public and will be launched once the vaccine is available,” said Oparanya.
Oparanya said that on Wednesday, the Council of Governors held a meeting where they agreed that to ask President Uhuru Kenyatta to halt all public gatherings for 30 days as a measure aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19.
So far, the County reported 721 Covid19 positive cases with 35 of them succumbing to the virus.
