Mudavadi expels Cleophas Malala from ANC as Kakamega Senatorial by-election looms

Amani National Congress (ANC) has kicked out Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala from the party.

With the new developments, Malala is likely to lose the Kakamega Senate seat leading to a by-election unless he appeals the party decision at the Political Parties Tribunal.

The Musalia Mudavadi led party in November last year suspended the senator from the party and summoned him for disciplinary but did not honour the summonses.

He was to answer to charges of working with Raila Odinga’s ODM party. The disciplinary committee also wanted Malala to respond to utterances that were perceived to be insults targeting Mr. Mudavadi.

The ANC national disciplinary committee said they had suspended the senator for donning rival ODM’s cap and drummed up support for the Orange party’s candidate against them during the Kibra parliamentary by-election on October 27, 2019.

“After careful reflection and deliberation, ANC has decided to take necessary disciplinary action against this member (Senator Malala) on grounds that his conduct seriously offends not only ANC party laws but Statute laws as well,” Committee Chair Yare Mohammed said.

Malala dared them to expel him from the party saying he was ready for a by-election and that the party had been hijacked by individuals who are self-centered and yet they don’t have the capacity to run the party.

“It’s evident there is no internal democracy in the party, there are no values as inculcated in the party constitution but what is there is witch-hunt and petty jealous informing decisions held by the party organs,” said Malala on November 16, last year at Gold Hotel.

He was accompanied by Kakamega County ODM deputy chairman, Lucas Radoli, Butali/Chegulo MCA Kevin Mahelo (Jubilee), Shirere MCA David Ikunza (ODM), Esumeiya/Shinoi/Shikomari MCA Boniface Akosi (ODM) and Kakamega County Ford Kenya delegates.

Earlier, the party expelled nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi and is surviving on court orders.
