Drama As Health Committee members are denied access to Assembly premises

Bungoma county health committee members were denied entrance to the county assembly of Bungoma with fear of spreading the Covid-19 disease.

Governor Wangamati had earlier on communicated with the security officers not to open the gate for the ward bosses, whose their aim was to discuss a bout the squandering of public funds in his government in relation to the 10,000 jerry can saga.

The county leadership had deployed police officers at the entrance who were fully armed to battle with bitter ward bosses.

Addressing the press, George Makari Musikoma ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) accused those people who are behind pressuring propaganda to this scandal that their days are numbered.

He said that the health committee were fully prepared to meet the witnesses to get clear picture on the misappropriate use of funds from Bungoma county referral hospital and those that were set aside to help in battling the covid-19 pandemic.

‘’Today we were fully prepared to meet the witnesses of the 10,000 jerry can saga to tell us how the money was used and the people that were on the forefront of misusing public funds.’’ He said.

The ward boss said that they had summoned all the witnesses to appear before the committee including the Bungoma county referral hospital accountant to bring bank statements.

‘’Our ministry of health is now in sympathetic situation because the county cannot fight this pandemic.’’ He accused, adding that the greedy senior government officials has squandered all the funds.

Makari added that in the morning had conversed with Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula and informed him that a group of senators were meeting to discuss on serious matters, accusing the security team for denying them entrance to discuss on essential health matters.

‘’If in the senate 58 people are meeting what about the 15 health committee here in Bungoma.’’ He lamented, assuring that they are maintaining social distance.

Echoing his sentiments, Tony Barasa Lwandanyi ward boss also Deputy Minority leader Bungoma county assembly said that the committee is really prepared to oversight the jerry can scandal and ensure that the culprits are identified and even fired.

He added that they were totally frustrated with the kind of governance they are having, calling on Governor Wycliffe Wangamati to allow them do the oversight and establish thieves in his government.

‘’We have not come here to fight with police officers our work which was tasked by residents is make sure that the county is free of corruption and citizens get better services from the county government.’’ He said, calling on governor Wangamati to allow them do the oversight.

Also present were Jack Wabulwa Kiamaeti Ward, Joseph Magunda Township the most annoyed, Majimbo Okumu Khalaba Ward and Rosemary Khisa Luhya Bwake Ward.
