K24 News Anchor Anjlee Gadhvi succumbs to Liver Cancer

By Andrew Ombuni

The celebrated K24 News Anchor Anjlee Gadhvi is dead.

Ms Anjlee died on January 10, while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan hospital.

She had been battling liver cancer since 2013 but went public about the disease in 2015 after her treatment drained her all her savings and funds raised by her relatives and friends.

Her death was confirmed by K24 head of TV and Digital at Mediamax Limited, Peter Opondo through his twitter account.

Mr Opondo remembered her for ever being a jovial person even when she was going through the painful cancer treatments.

“Oh my friend @AnjleeGadhvi You fought that cancer beast with all your might. You did it for your kids, husband. Never lost hope. You always smiled through the pain & insisted on coming to work even at your weakest points. We believed you were winning…until now! RIP my friend,” read Opondo’s post on Twitter.

Last year after spending two weeks in India undergoing treatment, the late Anjlee posted on her twitter account on August 12, her tribulations while in India.

She tweeted: “I don’t know whether I should be sharing this clip or not. But since cancer is the discussion I think it’s important to share how I find it hard to explain to my 5-year-old why I have to leave her for 2 weeks to seek specialised treatment out of the country,”

She also tweeted : “I had an intense CyberKnife treatment early February this year. The area treated was large, hence the recovery period took time. The body and disease has responded to this form of treatment and I had to finish what was left. Praying done and over!”

The CyberKnife System, is a radiation therapy device that is used to deliver radiosurgery for the treatment of benign tumors, malignant tumours, and other medical conditions.

Her colleagues in the Media industry led by Glady’s Gachanja posted : “Oh my! My condolences. She fought bravely. May she rest in peace and may her courage give others hope,”

Caroline Bii posted : “Rest with the angels Anjlee Gadhvi. You were such a resilient warrior. May your daughter find strength,”

Citizen TV siren Lulu Hasan posted : “Inallilahi wa ina illaihi Rajiun,”.
